CREATION: A Covenant & A Tower
(Study 1-E)

In the vast destruction of the deluge, the on-looking universe caught a glimpse of the tragedy that results from sin. The death of just about every living creature on the planet was a stern testimony to the universe of the penalty for disobedience, and an eternal symbol for those who would live on the earth afterwards - that there would be a final end made to transgression. But what of those who would live afterwards? One of the reasons that Noah was spared was for the sake of future generations. As Yah said to the patriarch, "With thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee." (Gen 6:18)

This "covenant," or divine pledge, involved the safety and well-being of Noah's descendants, and this one made at the time of the flood is the first such recorded commitment we have between Yah and man. The details attached to such an alliance are of significance to all the people who thereafter would become "covenanted" unto God, and so we need to understand the circumstances here. The reason for this is actually twofold - firstly, it will serve to educate us on just what a covenant with Yah entails, and secondly it has historical significance, as it sets the stage for all the events which would come after, as we will see in the studies to come.
