ISRAEL THE EARTHLY KINGDOM: Joshua
(Study 3-A)

Now the nation of Israel was free from its slavery, and able to carve out its place in history. It would not be an easy task, however, for many nations had flourished and grown mighty during the time of the chosen peoples' captivity. Still Yah was the one leading this effort, and the signs of His presence were often among the travelers.

Upon their arrival in the country which was promised to them as an inheritance, the Israelites were given the task of driving out the natives. The few were placed against the many, and it pleased the Father that this be so - that there would be no question that it was some Agency other than man which was responsible for so remarkable a victory.

At the beginning of this conquest, the mighty prophet Moses went with the Israelites, but due to a shortcoming on his part, it was denied him the opportunity to lead the people all the way through to their destined place. This was more mercy than punishment, for the name of Yah needed to be held in highest reverence by the developing nation. The people were not left without a leader, however, for the Almighty had already chosen a successor to the prophet.
