ISRAEL THE EARTHLY KINGDOM: The Time of The Judges
(Study 3-B)

In spite of the wonderful guidance provided to the children of Israel by Moses and later Joshua, by the time of this latter leader's death, the land of Canaan remained largely unconquered. Yah's purpose for the people was that they should utterly drive out its inhabitants and possess the area fully.

Even before the people of Yah crossed the river into the country, it was predicted what would happen if this was not wholly accomplished: "But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell." (Num 33:55).

Taking heed to this warning, the children of Israel set out to do after the death of Joshua what they could not while he was alive.
